Safeway Just4U Program Comes To Colorado: Personalized Coupons, Including Free Items!

Hey, good news for Safeway shoppers – the “Just 4 U” program that they’ve advertised on their site forever is apparently now available in Colorado! Springs Bargains reader Carolyn mentioned it on this week’s Safeway post, and then Susan sent in this info:

Someone posted this week about the “Just 4 U” program at Safeway. I had signed up for it a few weeks ago and then forgot all about it. So I went on their website to see what I could get with it. You can pick what offers you want to have loaded on your card, some are just for the week, others are for a longer time (things I can use, like produce).

Load e-coupons to your card in the same area, then print out a list (including expiration dates). It all fit on one sheet and didn’t use color ink. Also, gave suggestions (based on past purchases) for things currently on sale. Went to Safeway and all of my offers worked except one, which customer service fixed no problem. I feel better about shopping at Safeway!

You can sign up for the Just 4 U program here.

I just logged into my Safeway account (I’ve had it for quite awhile because you can load their in-ad coupons to your Safeway card and they come off automatically at checkout) and had an eCoupon for a free dozen eggs, as well as some personalized prices for items that I recognize as having bought at Safeway in the past (such as a special “just for me” price of Safeway pasta for $0.96 and Lucerne butter for $2.49. Kind of cool – though I’m not sure if I will remember to check in to see what deals they’re offering me on a regular basis.

Have you tried out Safeway’s Just 4 U program yet?

  1. Yay!!! Finally. I have been waiting patiently.

  2. I’ve already used some of mine! Got free eggs!

  3. I know this is an older post but I was hoping someone could clarify the manufacturer’s coupons and electronic store coupons thing for me. Every grocery store has had electronic coupons for years, and a lot (can’t remember if Safeway did) made obnoxious policies that barred you from using them together. Now using a manufacturer’s coupon for a bottle of Coke along with a store e-coupon together to make it free or whatever, I can understand them not wanting that. But a lot of stores made it so your ENTIRE transaction could only be one way or the other, e-coupons or manufacturer’s coupons. Does anyone know how these types of policies apply to the new program? Also, while I like the idea of not having to cut coupons, I’m curious if I’ll be able to load multiples of the same coupon on my card (like 5 coupons for $0.50 off milk and I buy 5 cartons of milk), or if I can only load 1 single manufacturer’s coupon…because if it’s the latter, I may as well just stick to cutting so I can have multiples.

    • Hi, Renae! First, the digital coupons are all still going to come off only one time, but you could use paper coupons for any that you bought past the first one. Also, I just learned via Safeway directly yesterday that Safeway’s system is supposed to now know if the paper coupon that’s being scanned is of higher value than the eCoupon. If the paper coupon is a higher value, it’s supposed to take off the eCoupon so that you can use the paper coupon. I just emailed them with a question about what happens if the paper coupon is lower value but would be higher after doubling, so hopefully I’ll have a response on that soon.

You can use both paper coupons or eCoupons with Safeway’s Just4U program (and at King Soopers, as well, though I don’t think KS has anything in place to prevent a lower-value eCoupon being deducted if you want to use a higher-value paper coupon), but you can still only use one manufacturer’s coupon per item.

I’ll be doing a post soon about the new program with more details I learned yesterday.

  4. Thanks Carrie, I think I’m mainly curious about whether using manufacturer’s coupons on your Safeway card would replace clipping paper coupons. The guy at Safeway made it sound that way (but of course they’re paid to make this program sound like it’s the best thing since sliced bread). When something I always buy has a good coupon, I buy 5 newspapers so I can have 5 of that coupon, then use the 5 coupons of 5 of that item. Again the guy made it sound like I’d “never need” to clip coupons from the Sunday paper again but I think that’s only if you want to use 1 coupon (i.e. with my scenario above, I could use 1 manufacturer’s coupon on my card and then I’d still need 4 paper-cut coupons…so then why bother with the 1 on my card?). I hope I’m making sense, I know I’m kind of rambling!

    • Well, but if you have the one on your card, then you can buy six! LOL. :) I do agree; it’s not going to keep me from using paper coupons because eCoupons are still only one time use.

However, there are some other special deals that they’re doing with the Just4U program and I’ll be detailing them soon.

  5. This is off the safeway website re: “Coupon Policy” with the Just for U program. I hope this helps…..

    Load to Card Club Coupons:
    19. Internet and digital coupons that have been electronically loaded to a Safeway Club Card are automatically redeemed at the time of purchase after the club card number has been entered. All other coupon policies above apply to electronic coupons that are loaded to a club card. Internet and digital coupons electronically loaded to a Safeway Club Card are not included in any operative “double coupon” or other increase in coupon value promotion. Coupons are not accepted on online shopping orders made on Safeway.com, except Internet and digital coupons that have been electronically loaded the ‘Safeway Club Card’ being used for that order.

    Doubling of Coupons:
    20. Check with your local store regarding “double coupon” promotions where customers will receive double the manufacturer coupon face value off the regular or club card price up to the identified limit. Not all locations offer double coupon promotions and the terms of such promotions may differ by time and store. Limitations and restrictions for double coupon promotions may change at any time. Changes will be posted in store only. “Double coupon” promotions do not apply to any internet or digital coupons except for applicable internet printed manufacturer coupons. These explanations and restrictions on “double coupons” apply to any promotion that increases the value of a manufacturer coupon beyond its face value.

    Coupon Stacking:
    21. Safeway does not allow a customer to redeem two or more manufacturer coupons against the same item in a single transaction.

    22. Coupon stacking policies for manufacturer coupons apply to paper and electronic coupons that have been loaded to a club card.

    23. If a customer presents two coupons for the same item in a single transaction, Safeway will give the highest discount for that item, subject to the terms of the applicable offer and/or coupon.
