Love the lasagna idea! Here's an idea of something I have done to accomodate guests' tastes. We have friends with four kids, and none of their kids like beans. We also have vegetarian friends. When I made chili for a large crowd of these friends, I made two crockpots of chili. They both had tomatoes, onions, peppers, etc. But one pot had only beans, and one had only beeft. I told people they could eat whichever kind they wanted, or they could mix them together in their bowls, if they like both meat and beans in their chili. It was a hit, and not much was wasted.

So many awesome tips! We go away for a month and host lots of people at the beach. Even making the hamburgers ahead of time is great. I totally forgot my mom used to do that in the summer too!

Great tips! I try to have stuff ready in the freezer and have a flexible menu plan posted. The only guests we have consistently are my in-laws, and they usually stay for 10 days to 2 weeks, so while I would love to spoil them I usually plan regular meals and don't get too fancy. They like to pick up random items so we incorporate those as we can. They will usually get all the ingredients for a roast beef meal and cook that for us. I do try to have the fridge and pantry fully stocked before they come and have some drinks and treats on hand that I know they will like.

As far as planning meals go, I agree it is hard when you don't know what they will bring. Last summer my parents, siblings & their kids and my family (over 20 of us) stayed at a house in Branson for a week. We used a Google spreadsheet and each signed up to make a complete breakfast, lunch and dinner for the whole group. That made it lots easier to plan than trying to coordinate each meal and also helped all of us ladies not feel that we spent the whole week in the kitchen. We also used the Google doc to note what kinds of other things we were bringing so we each wouldn't have to pack so much (snack foods, extra pots and kitchen equipment, board games, lawn games, etc.).

Oh, I bet they did appreciate that! Such a great idea... When we travel, we tend to eat a lot of sandwiches so even a quick homemade meal is nice!

We had two sets of out of town guests a couple of months ago and each set would be coming over for one meal. (I know, it's not the same as hosting guests for multiple meals and/or days). At first I was just going to have the supplies for people to make their own sandwiches. But, in the end, I made a quick homemade meal each time and the guests were so appreciative and really touched. I was so glad I decided to put a bit more effort into what I served.
